Can't decide - PS3 or 360

I've owned both before but can't decide which one to get back into.

I would love a blu-ray player, and imo I prefer how the ps3 handles media files as it looks great on my 46".

Problem is, I seem to prefer the 360 games. There is no particular genre I prefer, but generally speaking the 360 seems to have more that I like. Also, I really dislike how the 360 handles files (strictly from a visual standpoint)

I'm sure this is a common problem, what do you think?

Personally, I prefer the 360's media capabilities/handling over the PS3's.

What are you going to use it primarily for? If you're going to use it to mostly watch movies, then get a PS3... if you're going to use it to play games, get a 360.

Oh boy, here we go again...

What do you think of the controllers? I much prefer the 360 controller over the PS3 controller, but that's a personal preference. Do you plan to game online? And if so, are you alright with paying $40 a year to do it?

I personally buy any cross-platform games on the 360 for a few reasons.
1. I like the controller better (main reason)
2. Many cross-platform games in the past came out on the 360 well before on the PS3, so they're cheaper and are often better on the 360.
3. Xbox Live > PSN

End result is I have ~40 Xbox 360 games and 2 PS3 games. I play my 360 every night, but haven't played my PS3 since December. But that's just me. If you want it more for its movie playing capabilities, the PS3 might be the way to go for you. Most of us here are more into games than the average gamer, and that influences our opinions.

So you've owned/used both - know the pros and cons of each - know what you prefer and know you need to make a personal choice - and yet ask us?

It's completely subjective.

I, for example, wanted first and foremost a gaming machine that is capable of doing other media playback. The 360 does this. If you, on the other hand, want a Blu-ray/media player that can also play games, a PS3 may be the better option.

Reuben and coffee, take the job, don't change majors, see a doctor about that rash, get the PS3 now and a Jasper 360 in the Fall with 65nm GPU and maybe a price drop.

Heh. When the Jasper comes out are you going to start telling people to wait for the next version that has the unified CPU/GPU ;)

I'd take the PS3 just cause it has a better system. There are some exclusive games on the Xbox360, but more and more of the good ones are multi-platform now; that or they end up on the PC after a year or two. Having said that, you really can't go wrong going either way right now.

This was the same question I had a few months ago. But I chose the PS3 only because of issues with the RRoD.

But with that being said, When the Jasper model hit's, I will certainly buy one myself. Mainly for games like Lost Odyssey.

Of course! :)

Falcon does seem to be good enough, I'd have one myself if the 360 game I'm most interested in (Mass Effect) wasn't coming to PCs. With ME on the PC I have enough PC, PS2 and PS3 games in my unplayed pile that I can afford to wait on a 360 for another 6-8 months.

I love how any discussion about whether you should buy a 360 or a PS3 always devolves into the assumption that you're buying/owning a gaming PC with that PS3. The OP didn't say whether he/she had a gaming PC. Let's not assume he/she has one.

I have all of the consoles (see sig!) from this generation and last (sans regular Xbox, I suppose). If I could do it all over again, I'd still buy a 360 first - it's just the better console for gaming.

Right now .. 360.

A few months from now .. most likely a PS3.

I have both ... hate the PS3 controller and the games for it (at the moment) except for cross platform stuff which I own on 360 anyway. I primarily got the PS3 for BR playback but the fact that I can game with it is nice, I just don't.

I recently had a tough decision to make myself as I recently put together a dedicated driving game setup (chair, wheel, console, LCD TV, buttkicker, surround sound, etc) and had to decide to go 360 or PS3.

I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY wanted to go PS3 and get the Logitech G25 wheel. That's what I wanted and that's what I decided on but in the end I got the a 360 instead. Here is why ....

PS3 - $400 (cheapest I could get new, used maybe $300 if I got lucky) / XBOX 360 -- cost me about $100 used as I got a package deal and sold off all the extras that came with it
Wheel - went with the MS Wireless wheel since I got it for X-mas and couldn't return it(this was kind of the thing that pushed me towards the 360)
Logitech G25 - best deal I could find was $265 shipped (OUCH!!)
Game Selection -- 360 killed the PS3 for me here. I know, I know everyone says wait for GT5 it will blow you away. Well if the game is anything like the demo then no thanks -- I didn't care for the demo at all. Forza 2 IMHO kicks a$$. I may get proven wrong and GT5 be the end all be all but for me I love what the 360 had to offer for driving (Forza 2, PGR3 & PGR4 -- cross platforms I have DIRT, NFSMW, Burnout Revenge, Nascar 08)

If I had to decide again in a few months the decision may change but for now 360 is where its at for me.

Lucky for me I do have both. I would think get a Falcon based 360 now and game away. Get a PS3 bundle with the new DS3 and MGS4 and enjoy both worlds.

My game systems now are -- (2) 360s - 1 HALO edition, 1 Falcon, (1) PS3 40gb model. I no longer game on my PC -- I miss this a little but I got tired of all the endless compatability BS and constant costly upgrades.

No doubt the PS3 has some hit games coming up, but it'll be a long time before it chips away at the Xbox 360's 3:1 ratio of worthwhile games. Anyone who tells you you'll enjoy the PS3 more without qualifications is lying to you. If you want a Blu-ray player, that's a point in the PS3 column. If you don't like FPSes, that's a few points out of the Xbox 360 column. On the other hand, half of the PS3 games over 70% are sports and racing games (almost all of which are cross-platform, but they make up a smaller percentage of Xbox 360's top games). If you're a casual gamer who wants to play online occasionally but you aren't willing to pay $40 a year for it, that's a point in the PS3 column. If you strongly prefer one controller over the other, that's potentially a big deciding factor.

For anybody on the fence as far as PS3 RPG's go, Disgaea 3 and Valkyria of the Battlefield have been confirmed for August and fall releases, respectively :D

you have already owned both, so you would know better than anyone else. It all depends what you want the most.

I owned both a 360 and a PS3 at separate times and kept the PS3 since it fits my needs more. I wanted HDMI output, BluRay, free online play, and I am not a fan of FPS on a console since I still have my gaming PC. So with all of that, it made it pretty simple for me.

But if you like the things that 360 has to offer, get a 360, only you really know.

Im just waiting to see if they release MGS4 on 360. All of my friends have a 360 but Metal Gear means more to me than life itself so i will have to wait.

MGS4 is around 50GB.

Payton: "Due to filling up all the max disc on Blu-ray, we don't have the space to include other languages so there will be no English voice over in the Japanese version and no Japanese voice over in the US/EU versions."

Now that would equate to around 7-8 DVDs. How feasible is that? Not to mention Konami and Sony partnered to make PS3 bundle with the game included. I don't see any chance of Xbox version.

All signs point to NOT HAPPENING. If MGS4 means that much to you, get a PS3.

Not sure if it's a big selling point for someone on the fence but Army of Two is coming out in less than 2 weeks! :)
