Can't decide on what cpu... 1700, 1800 or 2100XP??

Finally building a new system. I can't decide on which CPU I should buy. Trying to keep it below $100 for a new CPU. Going with the MSI K7N2G-ILSR m-board. I know to try and get a TBred B but which one? A 1700, 1800 or 2100? Which one of these is going to overclock the most if all are Tbred B?

The 1800 is looking nice because of the price..... but not sure.

2100's are reportedly getting the best overclocks lately and have the best price to performance ratio. Lots are getting 2400 speeds or higher.

the 1700+ and 1800+ T-Bred B's overclock to similar levels
the 2100+ usually overclocks better but some 1700+ have reached the 2100+ oc'ed speed

i just got a 1700xp from newegg $55.

Now they dont tell you what type of chip you are going to get T-B A or B but most have got B's
Mine was marked JIUHB 0302XPMW and is happy all day long at 12.5 x 167.73 = 2.096Mhz @ 1.65 volts.

What makes this even better this is on my old Epox 8kha+ (via 266a) that i bought as a referb last year for $35 from Newegg.

If my motherboard supported mulitpliers over 12.5 with out a mod, i am sure i would have some more speed left in this chip.

But a 2600xp for $55 is hard to beat

I was in the same situation last friday. I went w/ the 1700 retail for $63, oem was $60 ($52 today). 2100 is $93 oem, $102 retail. Newegg prices.

so basically what I'm hearing is that I should take a chance, save about $30 and buy the 1700 from newegg..... hope that I get a TbredB. Guess that way I could splurge on a Thermaltake 5000a II case.

I saw a report of someone getting a TBred A when purchasing the 1700 OEM from newegg...uh oh? I am gonna buy soon, I hope I get a B...

The XP 2100+ Thoroughbred B eom is $93 at newegg and is your best bet. I have both the XP 1700+ and XP2100+ Thoroughbred B cpus and the XP 2100+ is the best overclocker by far. In general the XP 1700+ will run in the 1.9-2.1ghz range. The XP 2100+ cpus are running in the 2.166-2.333ghz ranges. My XP 2100+ 0304 can run 2.166ghz (13 x 166) at 1.65v, which is very close to default voltage. It is currently running stable at 2.233ghz at 1.7v. Seems like the XP 2100+ are the best overclockers. Just make sure to get a good heatsink and fan.

mmmm, I guess I will have to sleep on it. Whatever CPU I will order, it will be tomorrow, can't wait any longer. I was planning on using the Thermaltake Volcano 9 for the cooler. I'm just about to just flip a coin. Leaning towards the 2100. Thanks for everyone's input.
