I'm trying to decide on what TV to get. I'm not looking at low tier brands as I hear those aren't all that reliable (screens start to get vertical banding after a few months, blown caps...).

That said, I am not looking to spend overly much either, around $550 - 600 for a 46". I found these two TVs.

Sharp 46"

LG 47"

The Sharp is a basic model with no extras. Comes out to around $525 and then 2% CashBack.

The LG is a 47" with 3D which is hear is pretty decent. TV is $599 and then 6% CashBack.

3D isn't the biggest deal but I would prefer the most reliable and best value.

Opinions?

Sharp isn't bad at all, but I'd try to incline you to the LG. I got my own LG 42" last year -- no "3D" but everything else -- for more than you're going to pay for the unit you specified. Lots of HDMI ports, other component and cable inputs, PC input, RJ-45 network interface, USB interface and a wireless interface. Several "power-saving" levels, which also allow you to leave the TV "on" while turning the picture off.

After looking at your LG link, I'll bet five Mexican dinners that you get all that and more with the unit you're considering.

I actually bought the LG. Got it for $499 after Amazon price matched it to Frys. Getting it shipped today. From what a hear from those who ordered it also, it's a great tv. And with that price, it's hard to say no ;)

#1 If the LG is a plasma, go for LG due it the superiority over LCD in terms of Color, Motion, Cost and overall performance. LG Plasma's are a wise second choice to Panasonic.
#2 If the LCD is a Sharp Quattron, Go for that over the LG LCD.
#3 The best combination of size, price, and performance goes to Mitsubishi's THIN DLP TVs. Especially their LaserVUE models.
