Hi guys, I am wondering why I can't copy files with a sum of approximately 100 GB from one USB drive to another external USB drive? I'm using Windows 10 and every time I try to copy the folder containing all those files with a total size of 100 GB it just do the usual "preparing/discovering files" and then it just disappears and doesn't copy anything.

I have to divide my copy to 20GB each until I complete everything.

Any idea why this happens?

Thank in advance for any replies.

Various possibilities come to mind. Some are :
- An issue with the WIN10 installation
- USB hub going to sleep
- Some kind of file cache-ing issue

I would get to the bottom of it as this could be a show stopper when trying to do backups.

You'll need to try various tests to find out what's going on and there may even be a software monitoring & diagnostic tool available for this.

Hopefully someone will chime in about diagnosing this matter.

Hi guys, I have found the problem. The folder I am copying has a Windows User folder, it so happen I copied my Windows User folder on a previous installation of Windows as a backup into the drive I am copying from.

I tried to dig deeper and inspected each folder and I have found out that the "AppData" folder is somewhat locked as I can't even delete it. I don't know why, but my theory is that Windows 10 is probably referencing some file in that folder even though that folder has nothing to do with the current operating system.

Sounds like a permission issue. You should be able to take ownership of the folder and then change the permissions.
