Can't cool down 3000+

Have an Asus A7N8X Deluxe and recently put in a new AMD 3000+ along with a new Thermaltake Volcano fan for the CPU. Thing just won't run cool, as I have 6 fans ( 2 intake, 2 exhaust, 1 side, 1 top ). Very thin layer of Thermal paste and no overclocking of anything. It ran hot around 48C with no load according to MB5, but the Bios says its running in the 70C range. With a load on it playing games, etc the temperature climbs to around 54C and also increases in the Bios to match. I have tried placing the CPU fan a couple of different times to see if it gives me different temps with no luck. Now the system is shutting down on its own in the middle of a game or some other function.

Any ideas on what is up with this thing. I thought the new chips were supposed to run cooler than the old ones.

Do you have your heatsink on backwards? Maybe your volcano heatsink isn't capable of cooling it down. Which version volcano did you buy?

My 3000+ is running at 11.5x200fsb stock voltage, with a SLK-700 w/74mm TMD fan, and under S@H it runs about 49c. Got an intake and output fan on the powersupply, 1 exhaust fan in the back, 2 intake fans in the front, as well as the Vantec CCB-A1C on the northbridge.

So I conclude that you have something installed wrong, your video card is overheating, or perhaps it's just that Theremaltake sucks.

slk-800 + zalman 92mm has my 2.4ghz xp at 42c full load

the zalman is pretty silent.

I have the fan on correctly and it is a Volcano 9.

Will look into possibly replacing it to see if that solves the problem.

What I had before was an AMD 2400 overclocked and the thing ran beautiful. The only changes I have made are the new chip and fan.

Maybe I'll water cool this thing if the fan doesn't work.

Volcano 9's aren't known for their cooling capabilities... I've seen them mentioned in negative light here many times, although I've never owned one.

my 3000 at 2.3 gHz and 400 fsb runs at 42 idle, 47 load according to asus probe, i have a coolermaster aero 7

Sorry man, big hunks of metal and rinky-dink plastic fans wont get you the temps you want with the amount of heat processors put out these days. Unfortuneatly temps vary from system to system, and there NEVER accurate.

Well I have decided to go with Thermaltake Aquarius II Water cooling system. Figure I can use it on my next computer upgrade. Thanks for everyones advice.

Yeah, I was just going to suggest the Corsair Hydrocool 200 but I see you already made your water cooling choice.

try a ystek adjustable. Also dont know ifit was mentioned. Take off the hs and reapply as and reseat. also is fan blowing on the hs or away from it. could try flippingit

I know you are getting a water system now but anyway... I had the same problem when I first got my 2500+ Barton and a Volcano 7+, same mobo. I had the heatsink on backwards... the indented part of the hs was on the wrong side

The reason your system is shutting down is that the C.O.P. feature is saving the CPU from high die temp. Your BIOS temps are taken from the diode on the chip, ASUS Probe only monitors the socket under the chip. 70C in the BIOS is WAY too high. That means you are in the 80C range under load... and hence the shutting down.

The Volcano 9 should be reasonable for a 3000+ if your not going to overclock.

Just apssing some advise on.... I also didn't believe people who told me my hs was on backwards... I thought I wasn't that stupid Double and tripple check!

With my heatsink on properly I can run thr 2500+ @ 2200MHz 1.65vcore with load diode temps of 58C, 45C idle.
