Can't Connect Wii to Internet

I'm clearly a dolt who is struggling with something that is probably very easy.
Can someone help?
Trying to connect my kid's Wii console to the internet to download some games and stuff. Using a wired connection, the instructions seem simple. Bought a lan adapter as required, but when I plug in the cables, absolutely nothing happens. No error message. Nothing on my PC screen except my desktop.
Some specs: Comcast cable with an RCA modem, SMC VBR7004 router.
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? Thank you.

If the internet is connected properly you will only need to worry about the settings on the internet.

Somewhere in the Wii System Menu is a section for Internet settings, including Test Connection. The online Internet connection guide at Nintendo.com might also help.

If I want to get on the internet, don't I need my computer?
The TV where the Wii is usually connected is in the living room. The internet connection is in my office. So I disconnected the console from the TV and hooked it up in my office via the router. Is that wrong?

You have to go to the Wii setup and setup the wired Internet connection. It won't work otherwise; I had to do the setup, after installing a wired connection myself.

This "nothing on my PC screen except my desktop" made me wonder what you were doing.

Problem solved. Hooked the Wii back up to the TV. Then just ran a patch cable from my router to the console. Voila! Downloading music for Beatles Rockband as we speak!
