Can't Connect Using Router

I am trying to connect to the internet over wireless using my WRT54G Router and also through a computer hooked directly to the router. When I connect my router to my cable modem, I cannot connect to the internet. But when I direct connect my wired computer to my cable modem it works. I don't know how to fix this and I need internet for HW.

It's usually a pretty simple process. Connect your PC to your router and insert the CD, then follow the wizard.

It's been working for the past 6-7 months. It is now starting to give me problems.

I checked all the DNS servers and IP addresses, they match up for both the router hooked to the modem and the modem hooked directly to the computer. I also tried cloning the MAC address of the computer that can hook directly to the modem and still nothing.

You are using a static IP? Usually cable services are DHCP (even though the IP address rarely changes). If it is DHCP set your router to manually obtain the address.
Unplug the modem for a while and then plug it into the router. See if that has any effect. (that's the cable operators usual course of action anyways). I've had to cycle the modem leave it off for a few minutes then plugged it in and it took 30 freaking minutes to get my IP address. Of course I got the IP address as soon as I got connected to a Customer support rep for the cable co.

So here's what I have deduced. I tried connecting the computer directly to the cable modem, this allows me to get full internet. But, when I connect the modem to the router and then the router to the computer, it does not work anymore for either the wired or wireless computer. There's something wrong with the router but I don't know what. I updated it and everything but still nothing.

when you go into the router setup/config do can you see if it's getting a connection through the modem. For example, on my router if I go to the main/status page, it will show my external IP and other info that it gets through my modem.

Have you tried resetting the router and starting over? Might be worthwhile to run out and get a new router to see if that fixes your issue.

So I bought another WRT54G router and hooked it up and everything, and it was the same problem. I don't know what to do now...help?

Maybe you have to set the MAC address of your PC that works when you connect it to the modem, in the routers setup pages?
There might be a section called "MAC Clone" or something like that.....

Maybe your cable company or modem still has that MAC registered for access and when youplug in the router, its not seeing the right MAC ...(did this all happen after the power was out or something?)

So I tried doing the MAC address and everything, still nothing. I tried a Belkin router a couple days ago, nothing. Then I hooked up the Belkin router again, and now it works. WTF!!!
