Can't connect to windows update?

I am trying to run my windows update and it is telling me that it is "unable to connect at this time." Does the site use any special ports or anything I need to open?

You need to use IE to get to Windows Update Site

Same thing happened to me 'til I figured it out: I had my settings on IE set at High and I couldn't d/l the updates (I use FF for everything else).

See if this works - put the following in your Trusted Zone in IE:
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com
http://*.update.microsoft.com
https://*.update.microsoft.com
http://download.windowsupdate.com

or try this. a site that let's you update windows through FF, Opera, and other browsers. It isn't as fast as MS but it works.

(1) You need to do it thru IE with Active scripting enabled. Temporarily set IE/Tools/Internet Options/ Security/Custom Level/Low, Reset and close. Remember to set this back to medium or high once you are done,

(2) Zone Alarm, if installed, sometines interferes with the update site, so if you have it running shut it down then try again. Fire it back up once you are done.

Also make sure your system's time and date are correct.
