trying to connect to my dad's computer and it's killing me.

no router on his computer
only Windows Firewall which is on and remote desktop is checked as an exception
he's using default port, 3389
he has a simple comcast modem with no router or firewall
no other firewall
he has a user account with a password
i'm using correct IP, username, and password

anythign I'm missing??

When you try to connect to the IP, does it say the connection was refused, or does it give you a chance to type in username / password?

what error message are you getting? You can google that error message and that will point you in the right direction.

If you right click My Computer, select the Remote tab and click on Select Remote Users, is his login name listed there? No router or firewall on your end?

I have to ask, how do you know you have his correct IP address?

As a troubleshooting step, you could have him send you a Remote Assistance invitation. Unless his IP address changes quickly, that should work. I'm with Comcast and have had the same IP address for months now. I suppose this may not be the case everywhere.
