Can't connect to my ventrilo server through my public IP

I'm able to connect to the server through my private IP address but not my public IP. Other people can connect to my server, but I can't do it from within my network. Can anyone think of any reasons? I know it's not much of a problem, but I'm just curious as to why it will not work for me.

I'm using a Cisco 871w router, and I mapped port 3784 with the machine's private IP that has the ventrilo server (I think I did, anyway.. my friends can connect). There's probably some simple solution that I'm not thinking of, but I was able to do this with my cheap Linksys router.
