Cant connect to internet

Hello,

So I have me spare computer operational again, and want to network this one and that one through a router to the internet (cable not wireless). I have tried both the Linksys one, and the DLINK one, but both do not work.

With the Linksys it says I am connected, But my IP is my router address.

With the DLINK its limited connection and nothing.

I've tried setting up home network wizard, restarting computers, modems, and routers. Doing ipconfig /renew and everything. Guess my N+ Cert dont mean anything hehe

Any Idea?

Thanks,
Stevo

Greetings,

Tried most of that already and no go.

heres the IPconfig /all from the dlink:

C:\Documents and Settings\Stevo>ipconfig /all

Right there is your problem. You are not getting an IP from the router. Try setting static IPs. Do the following:

1. Make sure that the NIC/on board NIC is working and has correct drivers (CP>System>Device Manager etc etc
2. Log in the router and turn DHCP off, assign static IP addresses to each pc in the correct range (check router manual)
3. Power cycle router, then pcs then modem.

Report back with error messages

Hello,

I cannot get in the router on either computer. The IPconfig /all for the other computer is the same minus the autoconfiguration IP.

I got a yellow bubble popup on other computer at bootup that said something like: Windows Sytem Error - Computers on the network sharing same IP"

Any idea?

Thanks
