i am having problems on my laptop connecting to the internet.
i am on a gateway laptop.
i have no problem connecting the wireless network and i even tried connecting directly to the router. the connection status says that i am sending out normal activity, but i am not receiving any activity. i have tried restarting my modem and tried using internet explorer and firefox but cannot connect to the internet. i have tried disabling my firewalls but nothing seems to work. Hardware problem? or can it be fixed?

Have you tried connecting directly to the modem? Take the router out of the question first. DSL or cable?

Are you connecting wirelessly?

It sounds like a wireless key mismatch. If using wireless, strip off all security and try again.

Problems can be resolve by using static DNS (4.2.2.2) if you do have a wide-area-network IP address from your gateway. But DNS will not solving the issue, probably your traffic is filtered by a software from your machine!

Is your machine in the same subnet as the LAN port of the router? Post Router LAN IP & Subnet Mask, and your machines LAN IP (or is it a DHCP client?).

Why do you keep making posts that make no sense in regards to the problem? This COULD be DNS, but they should start at layer 1 and work their way up. Gut instinct is still key mismatch.

Connection lights, and verbal statement of applications, like ?Connected? are rather meaningless when it is involving Wireless LAN connection

Q1. Do you have a Wireless Connection to the Wireless Router?

A1. If you can type the Routers core IP into my browser and log to the Wireless Router web menus, you have a valid Wireless connection, and the problem is the connection to the Internet.

OK, I can connect to the Router; my problem is the Internet connection.

Connect your computer with a cable directly to the Modem with a setting that is usually required by your ISP. If it does not work, call your ISP.

If it works, then the problem is the Wireless Router.

Read the manual and make sure that you configured the Router correctly, or post more info about the device and its configuration.

Q2. I cannot connect to the Wireless Router Menus.

A2. Configure correctly you Wireless (you might need first to connect to the Router with a cable, http://www.ezlan.net/faq.html#onewire .

May be this can Help.
