Can't connect to DSL (Mandrake 8.1, but no CD)

I can not get the Mandrake 8.1 iso CDs anymore, and I would prefer not to upgrade to Mandrake 9.1 given that the 9.2 release should not be far from now.

The problem is that I have to use the CD1 in order to configure the (verizon) DSL connection.
Any help would be highly appreciated !!

i had the same problem when i installed 9.1 using only 1 CD and skipping the other 2 CDs... you might just get 9.1 now or wait on 9.2 but do a full install and then try again

the network card is a tulip and the modem is westell wirespeed.
I could have more details on the network cards if needed.

I think the driver for tulip cards is simply called 'tulip'
Have you tried doing modprobe tulip as root? what was the message?

did you try to connect using Mandrake's connection program or did you use pppoe program like rppppoe ? (I think Mandrake's connection manager for dsl is based on rp-pppoe)

try doing this as root/sudo:

$ adsl-setup

did you get an error message or were you able to get something else?

I did use Mandrake's control center to setup my DSL connection.
the pb is that it requires the CD1 that I don't have and that I can't find on the net.

You can either look on the Internet for finding a 'do-it'yourself' fix

i.e installing and configuring rp-pppoe.

Else I think I might have a Mandrake 8.1 cd set lying around. Let me see if I can find it. PM me if you need them.

btw, thank you for the help.
Finally, I d/l Mandrake 9.1 sth like 5-6 days before the 9.2 release ! 😱)
