Can't connect new Win98se machine with Comcast...

I have a new computer with a fresh installation of Win98se, network adapter is a D-Link 530TX+, and the latest drivers are installed and working. I can access my two shared WinXP computers, but can not access the internet.

Details:

I have had Comcast for a year with two WinXP SP1 machines through a Netgear 4-port router. Cable modem is a Motorola. WinXP machines have been and still work fine.

I plugged my Win98se machine on the fourth port and followed the Win98se instructions given here:
http://faq.comcast.net/faq/ans...tion&subcategory=1

After reboot, the Win98se computer's ipconfig shows DHCP enabled, but the IP is wrong (169.254.xxx.xxx) and the subnet is wrong (255.255.0.0). Gateway and pretty much everything is blank.

Please help...what am I missing here?

If I setup the IP and subnet manually (192.168.0.4 and 255.255.255.0), and Add a gateway (192.168.0.1) I can access and ping my two WinXP machines (192.168.0.2 and 0.3), but can not ping anything on the Internet. My router's config sees the computer. ipconfig shows DHCP disabled, and everything blank except for the manual settings - IP, subnet, and gateway.
