I have a Mac G3, and I want to connect it to a cable internet through a router, but it won't recognize the connection. It won't even work directly through the cable modem. Does anyone know how to do this? Please. Thank you

first check to make sure the router has dhcp turned on, if so then check the next
1) for OS X(10) got Apple -> System Preferences -> Network -> Select Built In Ethernet and make sure that TCP/IP is set to Using DHCP
OS 9 dont have it right handy, but in the control panels, TCP/IP make sure that it is set to DHCP in there as well

That should do it.

BTW, if it is OS 9, let us know. My Powermac G4 boots into OS 9, and I have some pretty good knowledge on the OS. But Dahak's advice should work.

Try zapping the PRAM.
hold:
command + option + p + r
at the same time, you have to do this at boot-up.

I find that it's easiest to do this while you hit the power button and boot up the computer. If you did it right then it should chime like it's booting up and then it reboots right away. Usually I let it cycle and chime 3-4 times before releasing the buttons.

Then set the time on your system and check it. Then shut it down and then come back and make sure that the time you set is still correct.. if it reset back to the 1904 or whenever it defaults back too.

then check your tcp/ip settings and all that.
