Can't connect iphone to pop email account

I cant seem to get my optimum online account to connect to the SMTP server. Is there anyone else having this problem - or has anyone else setup a pop account that can lend a hand?

I've set up multiple pop accounts on my iPhone. I had a problem until I really went slowly and typed my password in correctly. You sure you aren't mistyping?

I'm pretty sure

the incoming/outgoing is both

mail.optonline.net

i did all lower case for the user name and the pw is all numbers

I can't seem to get any of my pop accounts to connect. I wonder if its something I am doing.

Incoming mail server

mail.optonline.net

User Name: ______
Password: ______

Outgoing

User Name: ______
Password: ______

I am pretty familiar with setting this up as I have done it many a times in Office. Not sure if I am making a mistake some place on the iphone.

Any optonline users out there that can help me out?

Try "mail-hub.optonline.net" for both.

Thats the one I've always used and it works. (not on an iphone though, but on a computer).

No Dice....keeps saying "veryfying pop account information" and then a pop up box says "SMTP account verification failed".

I wonder if there is a problem with the outgoing server (SMTP). I looked it up and both incoming/outgoing were the same but maybe it has changed??

check the apple forums. they were really helpful there when I had questions.

btw, I was able to have my yahoo mail set up easily. no prob there

I got my aol mail and gmail all setup....have no idea why I cant get the optonline account setup

apparantly my ISP (optonline) was blocking port 587....all I did was add a colon and 587 and presto....it works!!

OK All, I've been fighting with this for a month now, and just realized there is a SSL slider - Settings / Mail / (your account) / Advanced / Outgoing Settings Use SSL. Set this to OFF, it comes defaulted to ON and your mail will work on 587. Could get incoming mail but not send outgoing, now both work.
