Can't connect, getting 169.xx.xx.xx IP only

I have had this motherboard for a little over a week and everything was working great. I didn't install anything the past 5 days and all of a sudden my network connection to the internet stopped working. I can only get to a 169 IP. I tried reinstalling drivers, disconnecting the ethernet port but nothing. My motherboard uses the nForce4 chipset, it has two ethernet connections so I'm using the other one now, the Marvell one, but would rather use the Nvidia one that is not working now.

Thanks!

Logic dictates that if you are using the same system with the second card and it works ok that the system is OK.

Make sure that you do not have a Ghost entry of the first NIC, and try the drivers again.

If it does not work it means that the first MIC might be Kaput.
Take it easy use the second NIC and be Cool it is just a piece of silicone.

This will also happen if your winsock is corrupt. You need to delete the winsock & winsock2 reg folders and then import clean ones. In the cases that I have seen this, it has mostly been due to spyware wreacking havoc on your system.

Depending on your OS, I might be able to supply you with the correct reg key.

Thanks for the tips! I'll try them tonite. Yes I did have a wireless router between the modem and computer but I disconnected it to see if it was the modem or dsl connection. I'll try deleting the winsock and reinstalling them first, maybe reset the CMOS also.

Yea at least one of the ethernet ports works but it's just one of those feelings of 'when's the next one going to go?'

I would be surprised if it was SpyWare since there is hardly anything installed and just using it for work projects and BF2 but you never know and I'll check for that also.
