Can't compete in Olympics because of marijuana found in drug test?

WTF? I thought the reason for drug tests was to make sure that people weren't using steroids or other drugs to give an advantage...

If someone can smoke a blunt and hurt their lungs, yet still compete well, good for them!

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan of weed or want to see it legalized, but this is just ridiculous!

This is in reference to a US runner who was supposed to run one of the relays who tested positive for marijuana usage, so they substituted someone else in (it was either the 4x100 or 4x400, can't remember, but that's not important).

Old news really. There were some winter olympic USA skiers and snowboarders that had medals revoked because of this IIRC.

Well I was going to say something about that being sort of discrimitory because it might be legal in their home nation. Guess that doesn't apply in this case (would be nice though). It's their games so you have to play by their rules, I'm sure the athletes are warned in advance...

There were a few other treads about this.
The bottom line is that it's the committee's rules and weed is a illegal substance.

At this point there is no further argument.

rules like that are absurd.

what are drugs?

asprin?

caffine?

whats the purpose of these laws.

to get rid of drugs that enhance performance.

so how do u ban marijuana when it doesn't do such a thing. caffine on the other hand does. its just plain stupidity. some people need a beating.

I was under the impression that weed was illegal in the Netherlands, but they just have a "gentlemans agreement" with some of the business owners that would allow them to let you puff as longs as they pay a weed tax.
