Can't clock Venice 3200+ to 2.4Ghz

Stock timings are 2-2-2-8. I can easily run that at 1T with lower VDIMM at 200HTT, but as soon as I try to raise the HTT, I can't do it, even with a divider, say 9/10 - too keep the RAM at DDR 400 or even a little less. That's why I've been wondering about the VDIMM, being too low. I see others getting Venice to 2.5-2.6 as well, and I've struggled just to get to 2.4 (which seems stable so far, but with lousey timings 2.5-4-4-12 1T and at 3.2 VDIMM)

a lot of things

do not try cas 3, bh5 will not work on cas 3

try the 5/6 divider and then the 7/10 divider

play around with drive strength and other memory settings, look at dfi-board for the memory guide and print it out

i would check your psu's rails with a multimeter while running prime

your using a 3200 so your multiplier is 10
240x10 is 2.4ghz

lets try the 5/6 multiplier
10x(6/5)=12 (round up if non-integral)

2400/12=200mhz (the speed the ram is running at)

bh5 should run at 100 or 133 around 2.5-2.7 vdimm

You might also try 2T vs. 1T ...worth a shot atleast.

How did you get your clawhammer to run a fsb so high? Is that at 1:1 ram divider? The stepping of my newcastle is a CG also and as mentioned above, it won't go past 214mhz at 1:1. Will do it using a ram divider though?

Yes I am running 1:1 but I had to switch to 2T to get there. For some reason it isn't stable at anything over 220-230 or so at 1T.

Okay, not sure why this is working but don't really care. It seems stable so far:

245 HTT 10x CPU 3x LDT 1.55v CPU VID

VDIMM 3.2v 2-2-2-8 1T 7/10 divider DDR 343

Passed 8 hours Prime torture, passed 3DMark05 twice, SuperPI 1M = 35 seconds twice (stock time was 42 seconds)

Haven't run OCCT or MEMTEST (at least not very long) Will do that over next few days.

I couldn't get 250 HTT stable. It was passing torture and MEMTEST easily, but system locked in 3DMark05 within first 500 frames.

I'd be happy with 245 HTT is it continues to be stable, load temps were 47C-48C.

Not sure why the RAM won't run DDR400 at 2-2-2-8 1T when 245HTT though. Seems like using a divider should allow it to run and still keep HTT but it doesn't. Oh well, if this is stable it seems fast enough for me. I'm not out to break any records here, just a nice like OC.

Thanks for all your help, I'll post back in a few days.

Thanks to the folks at OCZ Forums (Andy had some very useful posts to help optimize memory with my board) I was able to get here:

2500 @ 1.6065v, 3x LDT (48C at full load - amd hsf air cooling)
DDR417 @ 3.1v, using 5/6 divider @ 2-2-2-6 1T

Have run the following tests:

3DMark05 = 4057
3DMark03 = 9400
Aquamark3 = 63,633
PCMark04 = 4888
Super PI 1M = 34 seconds

Will run Prime95 overnight and see how that goes. It's been fine for about 30 minutes or so.

Very happy to get to 2.5 ghz and keep memory at DDR417.

Thanks for everyone's help!!
