Can't change volume label in XP

I'm experiencing an odd problem with my fresh install of Win XP. I logged in as usual and started to rename a few of the partitions on my hard drive. I could rename them all except for one. When I tried to rename it I get an error stating "you do not have sufficient rights to perform this operation." I thought that was really odd (since I could rename the others) but shrugged and logged in as Administrator, tried again and got the same error message. Dropped to a command prompt, ran the label command and could change it! Does anyone have any idea what could be going on here? I'm at a loss.

I'm also really new at managing a "real" operating system and would appreciate any helpful hints/links/tutorials anyone may have.

Thanks...

It's strange but maybe it's IN USE (you're opening, running some programs from it)
