Hi.

As per the title. Speed Fan has my GPU fan at 24. Just out of curiosity, I tried to raise it to see if GPU would run cooler if I did, but when I opened SF again it was back at 24.

Is that normal? Is there something in Windows overriding this?

I have reg fan set on auto.

Thanks!

k....I delved on the interwebs re How to Change the ATI GPU Fan Speed, came up with what appeared some good info, discovered the Catalyst Control Center which i did not know existed, but it does.

I then updated this center to the current version specific to my individual card.

But in the interface (below), I still do not see what they say I should choose on the left: "Performance"...and I expanded all the thingies. If I can't find "performance" I can't change the fan speed on this card using the slider they say will appear when I choose that.

·3 Click on "Performance" in the left-hand column of Catalyst Control Center. A sub-menu opens. ·4
Select "AMD Overdrive" from this sub-menu. The main window of the Catalyst Control Center displays the AMD Overdrive page.
·5
Click the box "Enable AMD Overdrive."
·6
Click the box "Enable Manual Fan Control." The slider below it is now active.
·7
Slide the fan control slider to the desired speed.

I think they dropped some of those more advanced settings in later versions of the control center.

Honestly if your looking to tweak some of your gpu settings the program you want to use is called Afterburner by MSI. You don't need an MSI card to utilize the program so don't worry about that. Afterburner allows you to adjust your gpu fan and has some other options for oc'ing as well.

O!!! See this? HARD DATA!!!:biggrin::thumbsup:

They dropped some settings in recent builds?! Tragic part....I do this a lot, IT DEFINES INSANITY: I kept opening the GUI and looking again for 'performance".....with the premise, any minute now, it will be there.:$

Let me go now and get this Afterburner!!!!

THANK U!

I've always had the "Performance" option--it hasn't been dropped. I just installed the latest 13.9 release two days ago, and "Performance" is still there, and the various options all work on my MSI HD7770.

So maybe it depends on the way the graphics card manufacturer sets up the hardware and firmware?

Download the AMD Catalyst 13.11 Beta 9.5driver. This Beta driver works with Windows 7, 8 and 8.1.

But if I don't have "performance" in the version I just got as my friend here does.....I jus do not get it.

But I will keep trying until I find a way to change the speed of that fan!!!! Card idles around 50C.....I just wanna see if I can lower that.

Good to know it's still there. I haven't owned an AMD/ATI card or mb in years so I wasn't sure. Sorry about giving you the wrong info Virgo.

K....one more: this low end (but also efficient) card---I would use integrated graphics, but reason system came with the card is my Lynnfield chip don know nuthin about integrated graphics, it needs discreet.

Anyhow, the card, same number, comes in a version with a passive cooling thingy....little heatsink. But I have the one with the fan.

That is what the original owner ordered, and that is what I have.

Just used AMD system detect, and yes, it said, other day I updated to the right drivers, the legacy 13.9 for W7 64. It downloaded them again. SAME VERSION. Already installed.

I am just not getting this. Why I have no option to do what I want to do. Maybe I should just leave the fan where it seems to wanna be re speed.

Nah....thas not wut I do, that is not how I roll.

K....I am in my lunatic mode now outta frustration.....so just used the new, identical download from AMD to flash the card again....with the insane premise, this time, it would give me a performance tab.

My poor card, right?

Same deal now, tho the report says, yes, this time too, everything went splendidly.

Wait! Making PROGRESS! Just got this lovely afterburner thingy my friend here turned me onto, cause AMD is not helping me at all.......and look at it! Says right there at the bottom fan is on auto. So now, I will just uncheck that and make it faster, and THAT WILL WORK!

Be back in a min....

I unchecked it and NOW....I FINALLY HAVE A SLIDER!!! How thrilling is this??????

Thank you bbhaag!!!!! See? Not only do you have nuthin to apologize for....YOU, may have provided THE INFO TO GET THIS DONE!!!!

I just raised it to 37. Just to see what happens and to first see if it stays there. Baby steps.

Glad to see you got it working even if you had to take a round about approach to get there. If you decide keeping your gpu fan setting is worth it Afterburner does have a check box that applies your settings at start up. That way you don't have to adjust it everytime you restart your computer

Hi!! Thanks for this too! (All of life is learning re roundabout and never giving up!)

Now, I opened Afterburner, where things are as I set them at 37, hit "save" and little green thingies are flashing. Not sure why. Now, there is box at the bottom saying "apply overclocking at system startup.' Is that what U mean?

Cause I do not do overclocking of hardware. But, did I by upping the speed of the fan? I guess the fan is hardware. Well, part of the hardware. If so, should I check that box?

OK I just hit apply at startup, the little box went green but the other green thingies are still flashing. What ARE those?

OK wait, I closed afterburner and opened it again and the green still there in startup box, but the other green thingies no longer flashing.

What a fab little app this MSI Afterburner is!!!!!!

You jus made another huge contribution! Thanks!!!!

PS: I am SO HAPPY!!!!

Just check the box "apply overclocking at system startup" and hit apply. Even if you don't oc your card it will still apply the fan settings that you chose.
Another nice thing is even if you close the Afterburner app it will still apply your settings and keep them going.

I believe the save feature is if you want to save different oc'ing profiles and apply them for different games or apps. I've never used that feature before so I'm not really sure.

Final Report:

Just checked to see if my new fan speed setting is holding, it is, of course. Just by moving fan speed from 24 to 37, a miniscule percentage change... my card is idling at 45C....instead of the around 51 it formerly did.

AGAIN, I am so grateful to have found out about this amazing app, forget, it's FREE!!!
