Can't Burn Data DVD

I have a 8X Emprex DVD burner, WinXP, 1 gig RAM, and tons of free hard drive space. I can copy movie DVDs and burn data CDs without any problems; however, I haven't been able to burn a single data DVD with various DVD burning programs including Nero and Roxio. When I try to burn a data DVD, the program consistently uses 99% of the CPU. Initially, I thought it was just slow so I let it sit for an about an hour but it appeared to have made no progress. I've tried multiple times and this is always the end result.
 
see if there's a new firmware for the drive. did you try uninstalling the burning software and then reinstalling?

I installed the latest firmware but I still got the same results.

Just in the past hour, I decided to look around for a new burning program. I ended up downloading Easy DVD/CD Burner shareware. Surprisingl, it worked! I guess the problem was something with the previous programs burning programs I used.
