Can't burn a thing with Plextor 12/10/32A!!!!!!

I just reinstalled W2K on new MOBO and AMD 1.33 and I can read from the Drive, I can't write to it!!!; I can't even upgrade the firmware. I used to have the Plextor as a slave to the HD but since have changed to HD on Primary and Memorex CD as Master and Plextor as slave on Seconday IDE. Any suggestions appreciated

Well, there several things you can try, all of which may or may not work (always nice to hear =):
  • Try putting the Plextor drive as the master on the secondary IDE.
  • Are you sure that you've setup the jumper settings on the Plextor drive correctly? Make sure its not in CSEL or CABLE SELECT mode. Make sure it is in Master if it is in the first IDE connector's slot, and Slave for the second.
  • Are you sure that your computer is providing enough power now that you have added (I think you added) a device? Is your power supply supplying over 230W of power?
  • Try the drive in another system if possible -- this will eliminate any problems with the drive. If it works elsewhere, then your problem lies either with: your motherboard, the IDE connection, the IDE cable, or the jumper setting.

Usually the best way to fix these things is to fidget around with the settings on the drive, the IDE location, the driver set, etc, until you get SOME response =).

First try what the above post says, then try putting it back to how it was before...slave to hd (primary slave).

Put in another burner, and it worked fine....somethings up with my Plextor,...crap!🙁

Update Just out of curiosity I removed the new burner and replaced the Plextor, and guess what....POS WORKED!!!!...This is what I did...reinstalled Win2K, I initially had the HD partitioned in 2 sections, and rearranged the drives,...I think somehow the process, lost track of where the letter associations were, even though they appeared properly in My computer and in Windows Explorer,...anyway, it works and now the world in back in alignment with the universe!🙂
