Can't browse the internet on NT 4 server

I've got a NT 4 Server /w SP6a installed. Problem is that it can't browse the internet. I can however ping www.yahoo.com, but can't pull it up on a browser.

I can browse the web from other machines on the same network and have been able to do this on this server in the past as well. This machine is a domain PDC. All client authentication is working fine.

Things I've done to date:

Reloaded IE6... nothing
reset all IE6 internet options (Security, privacy, content, connections, ect.)... nothing
we use no proxy servers, and other machines can browse the web.
Installed Opera .. didn't work either.
Made sure that dns settings were correct.. ping resolves addresses fine.

I'm thinking of re-applying SP6a, but don't want to unless I have to. It's been installed for quite awhile, and I've made no major changes that I can think of recently.

At this point I ask for help.... any ideas?

Thanks in advance.. Shane

Open up a command/dos prompt and type nslookup and see if your DNS servers are binding to your nic.

it sounds like your port 80 requests are getting blocked on the way out (such as through a firewall), which would explain why Opera doesnt work.

The big question I have is why on earth would you want to go browsing the web on your PDC? That is a serious security no-no, the last thing you want is some unknown applet to run on your PDC! The only web-page I ever load up on any of our servers is the windows update site (okay, maybe occasionally one of our other internal servers, but never anything external)...

Thanks for the reply, as for port 80, possible if they were blocking just that one server, but not probable as our other servers using the same gateway can go out thru 80 just fine. I've got no software firewall installed on that server.

As for going on the web on that server it really only goes out to the windows update page and to our own intranet page. For now I'm just downloading the security updates and installing them manually.

Its really no biggie, but it is driving me mad trying to figure out whats the cause of my woes.

Thanks again!

Got any firewall logs you can check?

Or perhaps run tcpdump on the gateway(or some windows equivelant if it's a Windows box)?
