Hi everyone,
my problem first occurred last sunday while I was gaming. My computer suddenly crashed without warning. Ever since then, I have been unable to start my computer normally. Everything proceeds normally until the part where my Windows login page is supposed to be. Instead of that, all I see is a black screen.
I believe this may be a GPU or video driver issue as I am able to boot up without any issue on safe mode. I have tried several remedies so far, all of which has not worked. Solutions I have attempted include:
1) Uninstalling my graphics driver via safe mode and then reinstalling it on normal mode. Doesn't work as everytime I restart my computer to apply the changes, the problem pops up again
2) Rolling back my graphics drivers. No matter which version I used, problem still occurs.
3) Windows startup repair via OS CD. Did not work.
4) Updating my BIOS to latest version. Did not work.
5) Removing my GPU, cleaned the golden contact points with a white eraser. Did not work.
6) System restore. Did not work.
7) Booting up via 640x480 resolution. This is probably the "most effective" solution for me so far since instead of a full black screen, my cursor popped up as well. Judging from the audio, I was also able to login into my desktop from this mode. Only problem is that I am still unable to see anything.
Anyone has any ideas what could have caused this and how I can fix it?
P.S. GPU: PowerColor AMD HD6870
OS: Windows 7 64-bit
