Cant boot to SSD directly. No option in Bios to boot from SSD. Why? (Solved)

Hi all,

I have a gigabyte motherboard that doesnt have all the boot options available in bios. This PC has 4 harddrives and a CD Drive. When I go into bios and try to set boot order, only HDD appears, and the CD Drive. The other drives do not appear at all, which includes the SSD the Win 10 is installed on.

So what I need to do is press F12 (boot options), and then it becomes visible and I can boot to my SSD. I would have to do this ever-single-reboot as its not set in bios as the #1 boot option.

Anyone know what would be causing this and how to address?

Thanks

There are usually 2 orders - regular boot order and drive order. If you need further assistant, tell us what model motherboard this is.

Yes. You'll need to set the regular boot order first - HDD, CD, Removable Disk, etc.

Then, once that's set, typically below that in the BIOS is the "Hard Disk boot priority" or "BBS" or something along those lines. That'll give you a list of disk drives you can choose from to be the primary boot device.

The other potential problem is some motherboards have an "extra" SATA controller onboard, typically the last two ports. You'll want to make sure you've not plugged your boot SSD into one of those "other" ports. SATA0 and SATA1 will 99% never be on an extra controller so they should be safe to use.

I did mention to use SATA Port 0 in my post above. I am not sure about the BIOS settings, but a careful perusal of them should tell him what should do what.

Thanks guys. Found the other boot order setting and made the adjustment. Working as intended now!
