Can't boot or backup to drive in optical drive bay

Wasn't sure where to put this problem so hopefully here is ok

I have a lenovo edge e525 and I replaced the dvd drive with an optical drive bay and put in it the drive that came with the computer replacing the c drive with an ssd.

In windows the second drive(optical bay) shows up and I can store data, programs on it but I can't boot to it or use it as backup drive in windows nor lenovo rescue and restore.

If you can copy files to it, you should be able to back your system up using other software. I tried using Lenovo's and found it to be a POS. MS' is too fragile in execution, and it is not so easy to dig in and grab files from.

I forgot to mention that the error I get is that the drive is no longer connected.

I quite like the lenovo program, using a usb boot drive I can restore an empty drive to fully functioning windows in 30 mins restoring from a usb hard drive.
