Can't boot off XP cd on laptop???

This is an older gateway solo 9550. Went in BIOS and set boot sequence to CD/DVD first and still will not boot. Just goes straight into windows. I checked the cd on another machine and it worked fine. Never ran into this issue before. Is there something else that could be happening????

I had a big Solo 9500 - and the optical drive was the first thing to fail. I replaced it. IUt would boot to a bootable CD OK. Somehow, yours is ignoring the BIOS request or . . . it is unable to fullfill it.

Try pulling the regular HDD and then see if it will boot from the CD. If it cannot - then chances are the optical drive has failed or is in the process of failing.

Does it boot from the floppy drive? (9500 had one.)
