OK...this is a weird issue that i seem to get with all my computers.

after a while, a usb connection (usually a usb mouse) will cause the computer not to boot. it will just hang on a loading screen.

I unplug the mouse and bam, right into windows. It's weird and annoying but i deal with it. i've heard it could be some acpi driver issues but i don't know why they would be out of date or why it would just start happening now.

my problem now is that i cannot get into win xp because of my mouse. it loads all the way to my user account screen but it won't let me use my mouse. mouse is dead. can't click on my user account to log into windows. tried using the keyboard (tab, enter, everything) but nothing registers.

I dual boot vista and i could get in there but as soon as i did it had to install my mouse drivers (found new usb device, etc). I just need to get into windows so it can install it.

i have tried safe mode/last known good config/etc.

what the heck is goin on??? =)

thanks!

hey i just want to make sure that this is normal:

i have to plug my usb devices into their EXACT same port or they will not be recognized. If i plug into a new port it has to run through it's little install process (found new device, installing, etc). usually it goes through fine but sometimes (like with my webcam) it needs the software or it won't install and i have to find the exact usb port.

kind of annoying.

is this normal?

If you switch ports, yes it will need to reinstall drivers. However, it should always be able to automatically find another driver. I think the easiest solution is to simply get another mouse. Faulty USB mouses can lock up PCs.

Yes, I had the similar problem with my USB mouse. After switching, no more problems.
