Hello...I just upgraded my box to a new ABIT KG7 with AMD XP 1700+ and 512 MB DDR PC2100 RAM.

I am experiencing the following problem after my 2 week "burn in" ownership so far:

After turning off the computer, and then
after the opening screen and RAM check, the system stops booting after the phrase, "Verifying DMI Pool Data......" A horizontal cursor just sits and blinks incessantly and nothing else happens.

I rebooted 4 times just to be able to get into Windows and write this email.

I can R & R the mobo with the seller but dont want to do that if there is a simpler fix.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

If your BIOS has that option, you should Reset PnP Configuration Data. You might also want to flash to the latest BIOS version if you have not already done so.

If that does not resolve the problem,

A) Check that your floppy drive is connected properly.

B) You may need to replace the CMOS battery.

Any beeps or error codes at POST? Like Andy said, check all your connections. Are you using a PS/2 keyboard? Try reseating the connector or another keyboard(USB model to rule out a bad PS/2).

I had a similiar problem with a Soyo board and w2k. I set everything back to default but the problem did not go away. Pulled out the manual and it suggested that I clear the cmos which did the trick. Booted up first time after that.
