my old computer wont boot into bios.

i bought a 6600gt for my old computer, then realized performance was bottlenecked so got a whole new computer.

now i also took out the ram and my hard drive from old computer to put it in my new computer, but then put those items back.
i had my new 6600gt in there but have since took it out and put back my old fx5200

the computer specs:
P4 1.8ghz
512mb ram
geforce fx5200
cd drive
cdrw drive
60gb hard drive
and a generic power supply that came with the case
and the motherboard is msi 6457 ultra i believe

basically when it starts, there is one beep, then the cd, cdrw and the hdd led's just keep blinking, forever.

and also, my monitor goes black, instead of having the box that says "this monitor is working correctly, please check video cables etc" when u have your monitor on but not your computer

i have tried reseting the jumpers, taking out the batteries, unplugging/replugging everything back in

please help!

I would try re-seating the ram and the video card again. If you are getting a single beep, sounds like it is passing post, so not entirely sure. Try booting without the video card in, or without the ram in, to see if you get a beep code(it should give you one with the vid card or ram out). Also try disconnecting the cd drives and the hard drive.

The only thing it can be is your motherboard. You can boot your system on with out an memory in there (Done it before) so its not your memory. Video cards have nothing to do with bios/cmos so its not that. I would do what Boobers said and reset CMOS. Just take out the Lithium battery and see if that does the trick.

When you pull the battery to reset the CMOS, the power cord should be unplugged. The point is to remove power from the CMOS chip, so it resets to default. If you unplug the battery but leave in the power cord, it will still have power and won't reset.

boot with as few thing as possible. : CPU, video card, Ram and nothing else. How many W can the PSU deliver

I agree with both stevty2889, and boobers. The first thing that came to my mind when I read the thread's subject was to reset the CMOS. Check your motherboard manual for how to do it, or do a Google search and follow a how-to from a reputable site. If you've already done this plus everything else that you have already stated as having done, then I suggest *wince* an RMA/return.

It's a memory problem by the looks of it. When I had a faulty CRIMM (needed for 1066 RDRAM with one mem stick), it's the exact same problem I faced. One of your mem sticks might be faulty or dead, or they're not seated properly. Easiest way to check it out is take out all the mem sticks, inspect them for dust and finger oils, clean them and let it dry completely (TIM cleaner or the cleaner from Radio Shack will do with a lint free swab), and reseat each. If it doesn't reboot, try getting a stick of mem and try that out.

You'll know it's faulty memory when your system will boot normally for a day or so, and the problem comes right back -- like it'll freeze hard and only a hard reboot of cutting the power switch will get you out.

Everything else is working properly in the background, HDD light and whir will show it's loading the OS, fans operate, CPU is operational but there's no boot screen or loading display. Your monitor may not even click on, though as there's no signal to wake it up.
