EDIT: Nevermind, I figured it out, it was the RAM.
First off - I'm 99% sure this is mobo related, which is why I'm in this forum.
My specs are:
Athlon X2 4200+
Biostar NF4U AM2G
2x1GB DDR2 667 Dual Channel
Geforce 7900GS
WD Caviar 80GB IDE HDD
16x Lite-On IDE DVD-ROM
Apevia 500w PSU
So here is my problem: I just built this computer, but it won't boot any CDs correctly. My Windows Vista disc says "Windows is loading files..." but then says "Windows Failed to Start" because a random file is possibly corrupt. My Windows XP disc reaches the "copying files" stage, but half of the files are detected as corrupt, and if I choose to skip them, it eventually freezes. My GParted LiveCD gives me a "crc error."
My inital thoughts were that the DVD drive or hard drive were faulty. But upon transplanting both to an old computer Vista, XP, and GParted all booted flawlessly. So it's not the drives... what does that leave? My only guess is the motherboard.
So I updated the BIOS... didn't help. I changed around a couple dozen BIOS settings one at a time... didn't help. I swapped IDE channels, changed IDE cables, changed jumpers, reformatted and repartitioned, loaded new nForce4 RAID drivers... nothing has worked.
So I turn to you. What in the world is going on with my new computer? Or, more specifically, the mobo? Is there a specific BIOS setting I should try? Could the mobo be defective? Should I get a different one? Please, any help would be greatly appreciated!
