The problem originally happened when I formatted my computer. In the middle of my Windows XP installation, I got a blue screen saying some kind of error due to physical memory and it being dumped. When I restarted, the computer froze at bootup.
After waiting some time, I tried again and the computer made it past the boot process. I once again tried to install Windows and it froze in the middle of it. Immediately after any of these freezes, the computer monitor turns black and the busy light on my case turns on. When I try to power on again, the power switch does not light on but the busy switch lights up.
When I wait for some time, then computer makes it past bootup. It freezes after several minutes or so, whether I'm looking around my BIOS settings or installing Windows. Anytime after it freezes, the computer does not even make it to the bootup, unless I wait for several minutes.
I have tried:
-resetting my BIOS
-trying another video card
-taking out and putting back in my RAM and CPU
System Specs:
-Intel P4 2.8GHz
-Soyo SY-P4VTP Motherboard
-VisionTek Extasy with ATi 9600 Series Chipset, 256MB
-512 MB Kingston DDR PC3200 RAM
-430W Power Supply
I doubt it's a power related problem since all my fans and lights are in working order. When I check my BIOS, the CPU temperature is around 47 degrees celsius. I have not recently added any new hardware. I'm wondering if my motherboard shorted or something. I have only had this computer for a year. I'm not sure if parts get worn out that fast.
Is this problem related to my CPU or my motherboard? Is there a way I can fix it or will I just have to buy new parts?
