Can't acess my router

I have a Linksys 4 port router (new).
I cannot acess the router setup with the web browser by inserting http://192.168.1.1 inthe browser address field. I can ping the router and I can get to it while connected to the internet, I should be able to get to it wighout dialing up my isp, is there anything I can do to rectify this?? I might also add that I am using win 98 se and that my lan works just fine.

Is the third octet in that http addy correct? (I haven't worked with many of these little routers, but I thought most were defaulted to 192.168.0.1.)

The other question in my mind is whether or not you're browser is using proxy settings. I'd guess those have to be turned off to enable you to access the router this way, no?

Samething happened to me. I got a paper clip and poked the reset button on the router. After I did that I was able to config the router through the browser.
