Got a server with Windows Server 2003 R2 with Service Pack 2 on it. It also has SQL Server 2005 installed. Users can't connect, so I remote into the server, go to Computer Management, and drill down to Microsoft SQL servers. When I try to open (local) (Windows NT) I get this. I then check the registration and it looks okay. I also looked through SQL Server Config. Manager tools and Enterprise Manager but found nothing to fix this.

Any ideas?

Have you used Mgmt Studios to connect and check the settings?

Ie. remote conenctions allowed? named pipes or TCP/IP enabled?

I'm not sure where you are drilling down in Cmp Mgmt, the only thing that is in there on my servers are very small config for SQL.

The services are running. In fact this turned out to be an application issue, my boss was on the phone with the vendor when I left, and things are okay today.

Did you read the error message? You can't connect to a SQL2005 server with Enterprise Manager, you have SSMS.
