Can't access other computers and shared folder using LAN but WiFi ok in Win 7

I was trying to upload pictures to my WHS and was not happy with the speed of the Wifi when uploading 2G worth of pictures so I tried hooking to the LAN directly and now I have no access to anything on the network. This seems a little backwards. I have full access using WiFi but none using the more secure LAN connection. I am a Win 7 newby. So how do I get my computer to play nice with the LAN?

I can access my network folders through the server console but not through file explorer.

I turned homegroup off and then on again and it seemed to fix the problem. I guess windows has not changed that much. Randomly try stuff without logic till you find what works then you better write it down LOL. It does not help that all the network terminology between XP and Win 7 is so much different. You would think I could see my XP workgroups and connect to that workgroup instead of Win7 just magically discovering stuff when it feels like it. I have an almost identical laptop to the one I had problems with and it found my computers on the LAN no problem.
