Can't access just one particular website

Hi,

My friend hosts a message board for our group of friends at http://www.soupy-soup.com/ and recently moved house. Since then I haven't been able to access it, but everyone else still can. How odd. Every other website online seems to work fine for me.

I don't get a 404 error or anything, just, a blank page. I've tried this with both the latest versions of Firefox and IE. I can't get in via FTP either, it says Control connection could not be established (I use SecureFX).

I was wondering if you had any ideas?

Thanks so much for reading!

Do you have S&D (Search & Destroy) installed?

If so, did you do the Immunization thing? That will create a list of no-no sites and will prevent you from going there.

It could be your DNS.

Try clicking on this link and see if it asks you to log in.

http://202.180.109.217/soup/index.php

Also maybe I don't know if this will ban you if you fail to authenticate but when I went there it asked me for a username and password but make sure your IP isn't banned from the site.

If the link above works you might have some bad DNS that hard hard coded into your network connection.

Thanks guys!! Hmm about the other thread, I'm not sure anyone would want my login information for that website, few people know about it and it's just a message board with a password because some people don't want their parents getting in. But I'll try plugging my old computer into the net and seeing if it loads from that yeah. I guess that's basically the same as a 'fresh install', just for testing purposes.

S&D? Ah no I don't. Sadly I couldn't access http://202.180.109.217/soup/index.php either, it just does the same (finishes loading but there's nothing on the page at all). It's my friends site (we setup the message board together) so I don't think he'd ban me from there, I hope not at least, but I had to wonder that too yeah.

About entering a HOSTS file, I looked that up and added this line to my HOSTS file: 202.180.109.217 soup

If I type ping soup into a command prompt, or just the IP address, it pings the site and works. I'm not sure how to load the website from Firefox coming from the HOST file though?

Thanks again!

What if you boot up into safe mode with networking? Does it do the same thing? Do any of your friends have laptops that they can bring over to see if they have the same issue using your connection? I would think this is a software issue but it's really weird that it happens on both IE and firefox. When you to go that website does it ask for your username and password at least and once you enter that it doesn't work? Or does it not even prompt you for username and password? If it does prompt you for username and password but doesn't work after that, what if one of your friends from their computer try to log into the site with your username and password, unless you all use the same one already.

It doesn't matter which browser you use. Your computer always looks at the HOSTS file before looking for a DNS server to resolve a website. If a site is in the HOSTS file, it will bypass DNS. So, you can use that file to somewhat speed up accress to a site or block access to sites. I was just suggesting it to rule out DNS.
