My laptop connects just fine, but desktop gives "page not found" right away.
Tried calling tech support from my DSL company but they said everything is fine.especially if 1 of the computers can connect.
We tried rebooting, pinging, unplugging and all the usual routine they go through and nothing worked. I use Nod32 and I tried disabaling it too. No firewall present on my computers(vista 64). There are no routers. Just dsl modem.
It just happened overnight. worked fine before. Scanned my pc with antivirus and anti mallware and still nothing.

Does anyone know what can cause this and what I should do now? I'd hate to reinstall the whole windows again...

elaborate on your network configuration...you have these computer directly attached to the modem with public addresses? does your ISP supply multiple public IP addresses? routers are cheap, you need to invest.

what can/cant you ping? the default gateway of the subnet, the other working computer, loopback at 127.0.0.1? is it set to DHCP or static?

try turning the "working" computer off, restart the modem, and connect the vista 64 computer.

yes, directly attached to the modem. Bell Canada DSL is the provider. static ip
I can ping everything. Default gateway is 192.168.1.1, dhcp
It's like something was damaged or blocking the connection. I tried reinstalling network card drivers, etc and nothing helps.

Is it possible somehow to maybe reinstall my vista without damaging all the programs that I have. Sort of "repair install" that will overwrite all the current drivers but will leave all my folders and programs as is?
I don't know what else to do. I've had so many issues with internet in the past and was always able to fix it. This is something new... 🙁

It kind of feels as if windows is trying to connect through a proxy...but the address is set wrong. Now, there's nothing in the settings, but I don't know what else to think, since it should all work!
