my CanoScan 5000f used to work perfectly
and i went without using it for awhile, and when I tried to use it last week, it seemed to hate me and this computer (not the computer in my sig, its my family's computer).... now of course, this is after a series of crashes and repair and reinstalls and other windows crap
what happens? well right now, the light-bar in the scanner, is stuck at the end (towards the front), exactly the opposite end it should be in. Its not docked or anything.
here's what would happen:
i would place a picture in the scanner, go into photoshop cs2 to scan, (using the Import feature, which usesScanGear CS, part of the canon driver) the and the preview would work. i'd attempt to do a regular scan, and it would get through some of the scan, the lightbar would stop moving and i'd get an error saying something like 'twain device cannot be accessed', or something like that is has been disconnected. I haven't touched it, the cables are all secure.
but the light would stay stuck. i'd unplug the power from the back and plug it back in, and the lightbar would be where it was, stuck in the middle of the platen, mid-scan.
i'd uninstall the driver, unplug the usb from the back of the scanner, and plug it back in. the driver would reinstall, and after a moment the lightbar would return to its docking position. i could try the scan again and have to repeat all of those steps. a never-ending process. now, i can't even do that. the lightbar stays put, no matter what. i can't even try a scan, i get that error.
i am confident this is a software problem, rooted deep in windows media center 2005. but i don't really know what to do... i've got some pictures from the cruise a long time ago (never had the chance to scan, back then the scanner was acting up and screwing with the colors), and now i've got pictures from the detroit auto show.
