Canon's movie mode

Mom got a Canon SD750, for how much she spent I'm pretty blown away by the build quality and how good the pictures it takes are. I pulled a video I shot from it and it uses some stupid JPEG motion codec that my system didn't have (fine) I installed it and the video actually looks pretty decent for a $200'ish camera.

I'm looking to get a camera myself, my last digital camera was a Fuji s4000, was pretty nice when I got it. I've been mulling around on dcresource.com today looking at cameras.

here's what I'm after.

under $400

fairly responsive shutter time, my moms SD750 is very slow to actually take a picture. I don't expect 4FPS on a under $400 camera, but I'd like one that can take the shot FAST, even if I gotta wait a 2-3 seconds for it to be ready to take the next. I'm trying to take pics of moving dogs with my moms and it's turning out to be quite a challenge with the delay and all.

good movie mode with no limit on movie size aside from available space.

don't care about size, if it fits in my pocket, cool, if it's big like my S4000 was that's cool too.

don't care what kind of batteries it uses.

here's a few I'm pondering so far feel free to comment
----------------------------------------------------------------

Fuji s8000fd
Panasonic DMC-FZ18
Casio Esilim Ex-s880
Nikon Coolpix S700

Saw the Nikon d40 for under $500! but I really want something with a movie mode, I know a digital camera isn't ideal for video but it's a nice feature to have. Which cameras should I add to my list? I'm partial to Fuji & Panasonic but I don't have much experience with cameras outside of the one I had and a few I've used elsewhere.

thanks to anyone who decides to throw me some advice here.
