Canon XTi special - free 60GB HD and 1GB CF card with purchase

Since this is a deal on a camera please change the title from "flash" to "flash card" or "compact flash" as this camera does not come with a free extra flash. You got my hopes up there...

OP, both links go to Silver XTi. I'm enjoying my Black XTi from Dell, but badly need a lens upgrade.

If you are using the kit lens and want a better "all around" lens go with the Sigma 17-70 DC 2.8-4.5 or the 18-50 2.8. both run in the $300's and have much better image quality than the kit lens. The 18-50 is nice for the 2.8 throughout but I like the extra reach of the 17-70.

If you are looking for long range check out the Canon 70-300 3.8-5.6 (I believe) IS USM or the 70-200 F4L. They are both in the $500's range and have loads of great features for a good price. The 70-300 is nice for the IS and extra reach. It's downsides are the lack of sharpness at 300, worse build quality, and rotating front element. The 70-200 is built like a tank, no rotating front element, I believe it has full time manual focus, and can be used with the canon 1.4x and 2x extenders.

Personally I would go with the 70-300 just for the IS, if you want IS in the 70-200 F4 you are looking at $900ish or $1700ish for the 70-200 F2.8 IS.

Sorry, could not help myself 😉

not meant to thread crap, but are there any solution to the uncomfortable grip problem with the canon XT and XTi?

Possibly add a battery pack.

Also, just curious, is the grip a problem from what you read or in your own experience? If it's only something you've read about, then find a store that carries these on display and check them out for yourself. I personally don't have any issue with it at all, in fact I prefer the smaller size overall. You may or may not. Just a throught -

Yes. Add the optional battery grip. It allows you ton naturally hold the camera while taking vertical pictures in addition to holding two batteries. I can take 1,000+ pics on one charge! I has the same control for aperature, EV, focal points, etc. it makes it look similar to the Mark 1D series!

Spike, thanks for the tips. Maybe used/2nd hand lenses would be good too?

Looking at the EF 28-135 mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Standard Zoom Lens for $499. I have to put aside $$$ to get it. :frown:

Thats a great lens at a great price but it designed more for a FF camera. With the crop factor of a XTi/30D, the lens it will be a 45 to 216mm equivalent. I wanted a true wide angle lens (~28mm equivalent). I ended up getting the Tamron 17-50 mm; I looked at the Sigma 17-70mm, but the quality control and build seemed too iffy.

I have the 28-135mm on my XTi, and it's a pretty good lens. It is a little slow, and the IS is old, but it works and has a pretty good range. Coupled with my Canon EF-S 10-22mm, I can shoot almost anything with two lenses, and having a Canon 50mm f/1.8 in my bag is nice too.

Amazon has that lens for $100 less:
