Canon T2i + EF 50mm f/1.8 II: LCD Preview issue.

When I am previewing an image on my camera (as in, looking at the LCD screen) and my DoF is focused on... lets say a flower, the background appears as I would like it - a blur of other colors.

However when I take the shot, and go back and look at it, that "blur of colors" I saw in the LCD finder now has the shape of a car or other object. Its almost like the camera tried to do a little microscopic focusing just as I took the picture... but I am shooting in manual.

Any thoughts?

post some pics, the nifty-fifty is not the best for background blur, but is great value for the money

Lens F-Number / F-Stop = 10/1 ===> ƒ/10

Both of these pics show F10 in the exif data, which makes sense considering your slower Shutter speeds. When looking through the Viewfinder(I'm assuming you mean VF and not Live-View), what you will see is the lens wide open, unless you use the DOF preview button.

Thanks for the reply Twisted, though I must say I am a little confused. So your saying that my f-stop was @ F10 when I shot those pictures? If so, I apologize for saying it was F1.8, I must have changed it when I came upstairs to quickly upload them. When I mentioned "LCD" I think I just misused the term for "Live View", my apologizes.

When you use the term, 'DOF Preview Button', I am unsure what you mean. Are you referring to the shutter button being held half down or something? If so, I am in manual focus and nothing happens when it is half held down (which isn't the issue I'm having.)

I am just curious that when in Live View, the image I am seeing is not the image that is captured once I hit the shutter button. The idea is that I am focused on one object, while the background remains out of focus and completely burred. However, once I hit the shutter button, the image that is taken - has a background slightly more in-focus.

Here's your problem:

Digital SLRs let you compose with the lens at wide-open aperture so that you get the brightest viewfinder image. This is also true when the camera is used in live-view mode.

So, what you are seeing in the viewfinder is what the image would look like at f/1.8. If you use an aperture that is not f/1.8, then obviously the amount of background blur you get will be different.

In those pictures you linked, you used f/10, which gives much more depth of field. If you set your lens aperture to f/1.8 for the pictures you will see the same thing as what you saw on the LCD screen.
