I just dropped off my camera and lenses for servicing at Canon. The person who I spoke to there didnt seem to know too much about the process, and didnt seem to know exactly what I meant when I tried to explain that I thought the autofocus was off on the camera body and possibly one of my lenses.

Is there anything I should expect from a warranty servicing or anything I should ask for? Does Canon do a real thorough job or should I specifically point out the problem when I get the call back for the estimate?

Also does it get calibrated for a specific lens, or once they calibrate it should all 3 lenses work equally well with my camera body? particularly in the area of auto-focus?

Thanks for any help.

I posted a thread here a month back or so praising Canon's service. Most people have great experiences so I wouldn't worry too much. I've never sent a lens in for focus calibration as I've always just just micro-focus calibration on my 50D when needed.

But from what I've heard they'll do their best to calibrate the body and lenses. May I ask how you tested AF accuracy? I've found that my results can vary especially if you try to get TOO scientific about it. Now I just shoot my LCD monitor with text on it. The brightness gives me a really high shutter speed and the pixels give me an easy thing to judge sharpness off of. everyone has their favorite technique though.

EDIT: Almost forgot, if its under warranty you can call to adjust what you want them to do to it when they show it as being received in their system. However, don't bother calling when they ship you the quote. The works already been done by then when its under warranty and with next day shipping you don't stand a chance of catching it.

I used a moire interference pattern to test my autofocus. i may not have been doing it perfectly but im sure that the adjustments I made were for the better, when i compared my old shots to my new shots.

being in hawaii I just dropped it off at the local canon store and they are supposed to get back to me with an estimate. then I think they send it off to the mainland to be fixed.

where do i check to see if its been put into their system?
