Canon SD630 at... Dell?!?!

Any retail store I walk into... TigerDirect, Circuit City, BestBuy... I can buy this camera for $399. None of them will budge on the price! It's weird! You'd think one of them would be cheaper, right?

So I froogle the camera and the place with the best price is.... DELL?!?! $339.15 w/ free ground shipping?!?!

What's Dell's rep like for stuff like this? I've ordered PC's from them, but a digital camera? Should I do it? That's a pretty big price difference.

Unlike many of my weboholic comrades, I usually prefer a B&M purchase even if the price is a LITTLE higher, but $60?!?

You must have been hiding under a rock because Dell have been selling cameras like mad.
All the deal site always list Canon deals with Dell.
Its probally cheaper than $339 with all the coupons from time to time.

You're lucky you are who you are because if you were a n00b, I'd be flaming you to all hell. 😛

PS Have you heard of this site called Amazon.com? They sell lots of stuff.

i've bought 2 cameras and a camcorder from dell at heavily reduced prices (coupon combinations). no problem.

I can get a camera and usually a 1 or 2 GB SD card for cheaper than I can buy just the camera at CC or BB.

I've purchased over $30,000 in digital cameras from Dell. Everything we received was brand new, retail packages, no OEM, no refurb, full warranties. The bulk of the $30,000 was when they had the Canon Rebel kit for $699 and they were selling for $1,000+ on eBay.

Damn I really miss those $$$$ days $$$$ a lot $$$$.

Digicams + iPods = $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ on eBay

I simply haven't been in the market for a camera!

But my wife is always bogarting my Olympus, I saw this camera in a store, liked it, Froogled it and saw it at Dell. Just wasn't aware that Dell was so good with camera pricing. That price is BELOW COST! That's amazing!

I'm looking into buying an SD630 now also but can't find any coupons anywhere that work on it. They work on the SD600 and SD500(i think).

Yep. The only reason I go to CC or BB is to actually hold the items and see which I like the best. In the past I have bought things, tried them out then returned them so I can buy them online for much cheaper.

That price is by no means below cost. Dell can offer much lower prices because of the lower overhead when compared to traditional sores. I do believe that Dell sells more cameras then any other major B&M retailer.

I find that a lot of the non-computer items I've shopped for are NOT cheaper online. At least not items I'd care to risk buying online. And with stores like CC doing 110% price matches and giving me a physical location that I can return goods to, I'd still almost always buy from a B&M even if it costs the same or a little bit more.

Returns online are a hassle. I've got a motherboard that needs to go back to Newegg and a video card that needs to go back to Tiger. I might end up just keeping them because I simply do not have time to locate a shipping box and take them somewhere to ship them back.

But to each his own. 😉

I know for a fact that for most channel dealers, that IS below cost.

Now you tell me why you've concluded that price isn't?

Do you really think resellers make that much margin?

Do you have a wife? I make my wife ship everything for me  she loves to sell/buy on ebay and doesn't mind boxing things up. I come home from work and it's taken care of if need be 🙂
but for the most part i see what you are saying about returns... can be a hassle.

Well, "cost" is a subjective term that will vary greately. Mom-n-pop camera shop cost is not BB cost for instance. Same goes for Dell. They do not have retail overhead like BB or CC thus able to offer much lower prices. I would not be surprised if Dell sells these cameras at cost to drive more traffic to their website.

Well I found the SD630 for:

$331.70 shipped at Butterfly Photo

$334.50 shipped at Digital Foto

$339.99 shipped at zipzoomfly

even $355.97 shipped at the egg

All this is much cheaper than CC

Dude. Don't even get me started. I pay the bills... do all of the deposits and balance the checkbook.... do all of the shopping....

I got the short end of that deal.

DOH! ZipZoomFly! I would've never thought of them for digital cameras!

"Cost" is only subjective if you're factoring in overhead as part of your "cost." When I say "cost" I'm talking about a VAR logging into a channel distro's website and checking COST. Not cost+landed+overhead.

Yeah, I'd buy it from one of those places.
I haven't stopped Dell for a while now cause I hate paying taxes.

nope. retail stores are notoriously overpriced compared to online stores. they are also always around the same price.
