canon sd1000 vs a720 IS

I think you are refering to the sd11000, which came out in Jan 08 vs the sd1000 that came out in Feb 07. Neither SD camera has IS while the A720 does. The A720 has limited manual controls while the sd1000 does not. Please go here for a complete rundown of all the specs on the three cameras. The biggest difference is the form factor, with the sd1100 1/2 as thick as the a720 (22mm vs 49mm). If I were you I would get the A720...I've had the A40, A95, and A610 and have been very happy with them.

As already noted, the most notable difference is the size/weight of each camera. Only you can say which fits your lifestyle better.

As far as pure features go, the 720IS is probably the better of the two. It has longer zoom, which again you must decide if that matters or not.

The 720 uses AA batteries which is convenient in a pinch.

They all have the same size screen, but the 1000/1100 has a higher resolution screen.
