If you check out my wallpaper galleries here, these were all taken with a Canon S40.

http://www.chadwickcmeyer.com/photography

I loved my S40 and then I sold it to my sister. I just bought a S70 last week from Dell and it's supposed to be arriving today! I highly recommend the S brand of camera. It's still easy to put in a jacket or pants pocket and the number of settings you can use is amazing. There are tons of things you can do if youre an advanced photographer or you can use the preset mode for point and shoot.

I'm really looking forward to my S70 and if it's anything like my S40 was, you'd absolutely love it.

BTW, I caught mine on sale last week from Dell for only $330! Normally $500, but dell had double coupons running. Keep your eyes peeled and you can get a hell of a deal!

I've got an S60 also. I really like it. It doesn't get much use these days though now that I picked up a 20D.

Well I went to Best Buy to check out the rebel XT and its just to big. It was a lot bigger than I tought, so now it looks like I will get the S70 unless you guys think theres a better camera around the same size.

I think the Canon PowerShot S-line is the best set of P&S digital cameras available... go for it. Even one of the lower MP versions would rock.

The A series is the low end. The S series is Canon's mid range line.

Id have to disagree...the S series has low end cameras too and I think they only reason you might think that is b/c of how high they go in MP.....but everyone knows MP doesn't mean everything. The a85/95 and the a520 are all excellent cameras...no where near the "low" end.

double A batteries = low end

and the line we're talking about here is the g6/s70/s60. not a low end camera in the bunch. the s500 is a digital elph, and not part of the same line

Canon PowerShot S70
Horiz LPH 1550 * 1800
Vert LPH 1650 +* 1900
5° Diagonal LPH + 1000 n/a

Canon PowerShot A520
Horizontal LPH 1250 * 1450
Vertical LPH 1300 *1500
5° Diagonal LPH * + 1000 n/a

not really true at all...although ALL low end cameras use double As, not all cameras that use double A batteries are low end.

I dunno how on earth you could merge the G6 in there at all...rather irrelavant. Im talking about the s30, s40, s45, s50, s60, and s70.

considering the a520 cost about half of an S70 I would hope the S70 is better

no doubt, and im not trying to advocate that the a series is better....just that its not low end compared to it.

If you don't care about the size, S70 is a super good choice.

1. 28mm wide angle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2. supports RAW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
3. 1/1.8" CCD (Although it doesn't really matter much nowadays)

Those are three primary reasons why I'd recommand S70. However, portability is a very important issue for most of comapct digital camera users and that's why I'd never recommand S70 unless someone's serious about S70.

BTW, if you plan to take many in-door shots, don't look further. Fuji F10 would be the best choice for ya.

Truth be told, I haven't checked back in that thread since. I am not sure what you are getting all worked up about. I am a dumb muff? What exactly is that? Seriously, I am not sure why you are such an angry person. My comments in this thread have to do about the topic at hand. I didn't even remember us having a "problem" until you brought it up.

The S30 and S40 were high end cameras. I had an S40 and that sucker cost me over $700 when it came out. I've also had an S10 Elph and S30. If you look at it now, the S30 and S40 look low end but when I bought them 3 or so years ago they were near high end cameras. The A40 or whatever was out then was much lower end than the S line.

I call the S line the mid range line because the G series fill the high end for Canon's point and shoot.

Sxx is sure is a mid-high end camera. It's picture quality is as good as G series, if not the same, and how it supports RAW prooves that it, indeed, is a (mid) high end camera. Although it's been many years since S30 came out, S30's picture quality is still one of the best in compact cameras. Sxx would've been a killer camera if they were smaller and looked better.
On the other hand, Axx series has gotton so much better since A70, but its picture quality isn't so good. It's not bad but it is no where near Sxx series.
