Canon S70 or is there something better?

I like the Canon S70 but is there anything better thats around its size? I dont have a budget but I dont want one of those bulky "pro" cameras. Is the S70 a good choice or are there better products?

I dont have to have 7 megapixels but I want a camera that takes great pictures while being smaller than the SLR cameras

haha you people must be kidding, there is no way the SD series takes better pix than a S70. My friend has a SD500, I used to have a S200 and now I have a Panasonic Lumix FX7. The lense on these cameras are just too small, my dad has a S70 and used to have a C3000, both take better pix than any of the small pocket size camreas.

I've owned a S400 and currently the S60. How can you even compare?

That's what I thought too originally, that it looked like a klondike bar. But with a belt pouch it's a non-issue. I'm glad I sold the S400 and went with this one instead. So much more possibilities.

I own an s60, and I am very happy with it. It's relatively compact (ofcourse no where near the s400/500 and such), and you get so many more features and options.

Agreed. It seems like ever since little girls all bought up the Canon Elph series, it served as an indication of the best, end-all, camera. It's not. Talk about a herd mentality. Clearly, someone asking specfically about the S70 is looking for something a step above the fun party camera market that the Elph serves.

eshtog - I personally like the S line, owning a S45 myself. I plan on selling it and purchasing the S70 as a replacement.

And to quell the Canon fanboys, I am going to get an SD series to serve as my "party", toss in my backpack, camera.

Check out the canon S1/S2 IS cameras. I think those might fit what you want.

i'd have recommended the same thing but both are kind of bulky.

we preordered our S2 IS though 😉

The S70 is huge like a brick! Get the SD300 instead.. way better and more compact.

The Canon SD-series cameras do not have manual controls, making them close to worthless for someone who wants control over their photos. I think the S70 is good. The G6 is smaller than the G5 so maybe it isn't so big anymore.

and the G5 takes nice shots. see link here

😀

The SD series is nowhere in the same class as the Sx0 series. The Gx cameras are basically larger versions of the Sx0 series. You will not find another camera in Canon's lineup that will compare with the S70.

I had a Canon S45 (well, I still have it, but will be selling it shortly) and loved it. Since the S70 is built on the same framework, I'm sure it is a great camera as well. Check out dpreview.com for comparisons to other cameras, though.

Well after some debating looks like I will be getting the Canon Rebel XT. From the reviews it doesnt seem like its that big and it takes awesome pictures.

Good choice. That is the camera that replaced my S45.
