i recently bought a canon s230 along with a 256mb compact flash card by Viking. it works fine most of the time, but every once in awhile there'll be this weird error that says "CF card error" when i try to viewing the picture. this is odd to me because with my 16mb card that came with the camera never had a problem and worked perfectly. so why am i having this problem now, with the larger card?

also...i have another question: does the camera actually function slower with a larger card than with a smaller card?

thx

some ideas:

do a reformat of the cf card in the camera (when it's empty or you've copied off the pictures)....make sure it's firmly inserted in the camera.

get a cf reader/writer and see if it still has problems with that particular picture that give you errors in the camera

like all electronic devices, it's possible the cf card is faulty. Take a bunch of test shots and see if it occurs at a certain spot (ie at 50 or so pictures)

The speed should be the same....there are higher speeds of cf cards, but I don't think it really matters unless you have a high end digital slr (that can take pictures rapidly). I think viking cards are supposed to be pretty good speedwise.

well...i could try formatting my card again, but how do you go about doing that? heh, sorry guys i'm pretty new this this word you kids call "technology."

and another thing, i recently talked to one of my friends with the exacty same setup as me, canon s230 and viking 256mb, and he seems to be having the same problem. so, if you guys have any more ideas on what could be wrong i'm opened to ideas.

go to the menu of the camera, and there should be a 'tools' menu (picture of a wrench or something like that) and there will be a format CF option...check your manual if you can't find it

see the bottom menu picture
