I have a Canon S100 Digital Elph camera and a SanDisk compact flash card reader for my laptop. I put the card in the reader and then put the reader in a PCMCIA slot in my laptop. I then go try to browse the new compact flash drive in windows explorer. Click here to see what I see in Explorer. There are no file extensions on the files! And the file sizes are huge.. Definatley misreported. I have a 64mb Mr Flash CF card and WIn98 on my Toshiba Tecra 700CT laptop. Any ideas on what's going on here? I have to use the card reader because I don't have a USB port on my laptop. Any help or suggestions are appreciated..

I would say that the card is bad if it is not reporting the correct information. Maybe the FAT is damaged. Try reformmating it and trying again. Does the card work in another system?

I have 2 different cards.. I have formatted both of them several times. I also have 2 PCMCIA CF card readers, and both of them do the same thing! Nothing seems to work. Are the images from the camera stored in the Canon raw format, or are they saved as .jpgs? I can't seem to find any information on this on the net..

They ought to be stored in either jpg or tiff if you opted for an uncompressed file. As you say it's not the cards, then I would assume it's your computer. Try making sure you install all the updates for windows 98 off the windows update site. There may be a PCMCIA update patch that fixes your problem. Other than that, those readers are pretty much just plug-and-play. I have sold almost 100 of them at Best Buy and I've never heard of anyone having a problem with one.

That's what I was thinking.. I have applied all the Win98 updates that I could find, and I still have the problems. I am going to try to find someone else with a laptop to see what hapens. Thanks for the info!
