4-year-old printer, is on life support. Will buy new one today. Narrowed it down to Canon Pixma iP6600D or the Pixma MP500 multi function.

Both are about the same price. I love the scanner on the MP500, not so much the copier part. I don't care really about the jumbo LCD screen/menu etc on the ip6600d. Which would be better though, for modest amount of high quality photo printing?? Near professional as best as I can get? The ip6600d has 1 more ink cartridge than the mp500; does this mean less quality photo prints on the mp500?

The ip6600d, or the mp500? Whaddya think?

older canon ip6000 or ip4000 that can use non-proprietary inks, or the mp500 because it can also use the cheaper generic inks

I've had HORRID experience using generic inks. I'll be sticking to canon inks no matter what.

Well, if they're almost the same price, I'd go with the MP500 for its extra features. I just picked one up and it's a very nice machine.

What about the photo print quality. The MP500 has one less ink cartridge than the 6600d. If this is the case, I'm back on the fence of which to buy. I will use it for ocassional phot printing, so I want the best photo printing canon of these two.

I have been using PrintRite ink cartridges with my Canon i865 for over 2 years now, never had any problems,as to the money I have saved by buying non Canon ink carts, well lets just say I could buy a few new printers :).

What cartridges do they use? If it is just an exta black cartridge, then all it does is save you money.

(The 5 tank printers have 4 tanks used for colour printing {Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Gloss black} and one tank for b/w printing {Matt black}. You can't use the Matt black with the glossy C/M/K, because that would make photo's look really uneven. If your printer doesn't have Gloss black, it just mix's the C/M/Y to creat black)
